Fractionated Coconut oil is a carrier oil to put your essential oils into. Carrier oils work by actually carrying the essential oil to where you want them on your skin and they also dilute the essential oils, as pure essential oils by themselves are quite potent and volatile - meaning they evaporate quickly. While they do dilute your essential oils carrier oils like Fractionated Coconut actually help increase the absorption of essential oils into your skin which makes them more effective - not weaker as you would expect. Because the carrier oil helps your skin absorb the essential oil better it actually extends the benefits of your essential oil. The latest research suggests that using an essential oil alone - without a carrier oil only about 4% of the essential oil gets absorbed. But if you do use a carrier oil 10% of it is absorbed.
Interesting right! You can also extend the benefits of your essential oils by covering the area of your skin where you have applied - for instance if you have just massaged your feet with Fractionated Coconut oil and some Cedarwood for a nice grounding for your day, pop some socks on to hold in the effects, it also helps the oil absorb more into your skin and not end up on your floor. Covering slows down the evaporation rate even more to about 75% according to the latest research out there again.
Fractionated Coconut oil is scentless so it will not affect the scent of any essential oils you add, or it can also be used on its own. Because it's fractionated this means it is temperature stable, it does not harden in cooler weather like cooking coconut oil does.
My favourite uses for Fractionated Coconut Oil:
doTerra now has a mini 30ml bottle of Fractionated Coconut Oil which is really handy. I have a few of these mini bottles on the go - one for a makeup remover, then a couple more bottles with blends for my after shower moisterising. You can also buy Fractionated Coconut Oil in bulk from Essential Oil Supplies stores or Health and Wellness type stores.
✨Make up Remover: I have a few bottles of this on the go - a plain one, which I use as makeup remover, you add a couple of drops to your makeup remover pads and gently wipe eye makeup off and then rub some into your hands and apply all over your face and neck, then either shower or wipe off with a warm flannel.
One with a couple of drops of Cypress oil in it, Cypress helps with oily skin so I find takes off any oily residues left behind from your makeup.
One with some soothing Lavender in it, just because. Well because Lavender is so nourishing and soothing for your skin and also your mind after a long day.
✨Essential Oil Roller Blends: To make up essential oil blends to try, 3/4 fill little roller bottle with Fractionated Coconut oil and then experiment with some oil blending for topical application. These are a lovely way to make your own "purefumes" or if you are trying the benefits of one particular oil, or you want to try blending different oils to see what results you get both aromatically and the effects on your body.
Some of my favourites =
5 drops Lavender, 3 drops Vetiver, 2 drops Ylang Ylang - ☺️Relaxation
10 drops Clary Sage, 5 drops Lavender, 5 drops Ylang Ylang, 5 drops Frankincense - 🙆♀️ Woman's support
4 drops Frankincense, 4 drops Lavender, 3 drops Patchouli - 🧘♀️Calming
More uses....
Then I have a couple more bottles with my favourite oils added to them already so when I jump out of the shower I smother myself in them, usually Balance or Lavender Peace - two of the doTerra Blends. Once you step out of the shower, before drying yourself, massage in the Fractionated Coconut oil with or without Essential Oils added to it. Then dry yourself off, this leaves your skin so silky smooth.
✨Hair deep treatment - when you are due for a hair wash, maybe a couple of hours before hand or even over night - (just sleep on an older pillowcase) massage into your head and hair Fractionated Coconut oil with a few drops of Rosemary oil added. A little goes a long way so about 1/4 of a cup of oil in a bowl with 2-3 drops of Rosemary oil for long hair and half that for short. Rinse out and shampoo and condition as normal but you will notice extra softness and shine.
✨Bath Oils: Keep hold of your old used bottles of oils so you can make up bath oils in them. Give them a good rinse out then fill almost to the top with Fractionated Coconut oil then add some Essential Oils good for bathing in like:
Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Lavender, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Roman Chamomile, Frankincense - think relaxing, comforting smells... Try out some different blends in your bath.
NB: do NOT use citrus oils if you will be exposed to the sun in the next 4-6 hours. All citrus oils are photosensitive so can cause extreme sunburn if you've been soaking in a fully citrus bath!
The Fractionated coconut oil adds a lovely silkyness to your bath water, you will be struggling to get out! I also love to add some fresh herbs and petals.... bliss!!
Guess what! Even Hippocrates recommended daily aromatic baths to prolong life! In ancient Greece, the renowned physician Hippocrates, considered the "Father of Medicine," prescribed the use of aromatic baths as a means to promote longevity and well-being. This historical practice aligns seamlessly with the holistic principles that emphasize balance within the body. Fractionated Cocount oil, known for its light texture and effective essential oil carrier properties, contributes to the luxurious experience of aromatic baths. When we take the time to take a relaxing aromatherapy bath we can appreciate the therapeutic benefits of such rituals, enhancing not only the absorption of essential oils but also creating a sense of relaxation and vitality.
I hope this gives you some ideas of how to use your Fractionated Cocount Oil, let me know if you find some more for yourself!!
