Content pillars are the foundational topics or themes that guide your content strategy and planning. They are like the backbone of every piece of content you produce, representing the core focus areas for your content-creating efforts. Having content pillars is important because they provide structure and direction to your content, ensuring it aligns with your overall goals for your business and talks to your target audience.
Here are a few reasons WHY you need content pillars:
1️⃣Consistency: Content pillars help you maintain consistency in your messaging and branding. By having a set of defined topics, you can make sure that your content stays on track and delivers the right message to your audience.
2️⃣Audience Relevance: Content pillars allow you to create content that is relevant to your target audience. By taking the time to understand their needs, interests, and pain points, you can create your content to address their specific challenges and provide valuable solutions.
3️⃣Efficiency: (my favorite 😉) With content pillars, you can streamline your content creation process. By focusing on a few key topics, you can avoid spreading yourself too thin and ensure that your content is well-researched and high-quality.
4️⃣Brand Authority: Content pillars help you establish yourself as an authority in your industry or niche. By consistently producing valuable content on specific topics, you can build trust and credibility with your audience, positioning yourself as a go-to resource.
5️⃣Strategic Planning: Content pillars enable you to plan and organise your content strategy in advance. By mapping out your topics and themes, you can ensure that your content is well-balanced and covers a wide range of relevant subjects.
Creating Your Content Pillars
When developing your Content Pillars, it's essential to incorporate your ideal customer into the process. What do they need? What are they interested in? What solutions are they looking for? By doing your research and understanding their needs you can create your content to provide them the solutions they are looking for.
It's important to remember that your ideal customer may not always be who you initially thought. Keep notes of people who buy from you or use your services and the ones you have the most success with, the ones who are easy to deal with and keep coming back, find out what makes them tick and then try to attract more people like them. All to often we fall into the trap of serving the "wrong people" - time wasters or we have a certain picture of the ideal customer we "want" who is not right for us - this takes a bit of trial and error and depends on your business, but if you can nail this it's a game changer!
